About Me
Hyeonjeong Kim, known as Caterina Rota Kim, is a violin maker and string instrument restoration specialist based in Cremona.
She enrolled in the Cremona International Violin Making School in 2009 and studied violin making under the guidance of three maestros: Giorgio Scolari, Massimo Negroni, and Wanna Zambelli. After completing her studies in the summer of 2013, she commenced her career as an assistant to maestro Claudio Amighetti, a renowned expert and restorer in the field of string instruments, at his workshop. Under maestro Amighetti's guidance, she began to delve into the study of high-quality instruments, learning techniques for repair and restoration in the Italian violin-making tradition. She has restored many Italian instruments, including Francesco Ruggeri's cello from 1690, Lorenzo Storioni's viola from 1790, Giovanni Battista Ceruti's violin from 1800, Giovanni Gagliano's viola from 1800, Leandro Bisiach’s violin from 1892, Nicolo Bianchi's violin from 1830, and Gaetano Sgarabotto's cello from 1930 and so on. At the same time she applies the knowledge gained from these restoration processes to create new string instruments with improved acoustics.
Caterina Rota Kim's bottega is located at via Magenta 48, Cremona, and she is available to communicate with clients via email, phone, or text at any time.
